After a Voyager and a Hobie Quest I finally caved in and purchased a Perception Swing

Looks great...
its a testament to its build that the swing still holds its own against new yaks to this day...

Mitch enjoy the yak, and your swing has now been added to the theyakshed Swing Collection
viewtopic.php?f=17&t=281&p=3093#p3093

If you are unaware you can work out the age of your yak by an engraving in the hull, on the side just below the rear handle, looks like 01SW1234 ... first 2 digits 01 are year it was made [eg is 2001] .... SW signifies it is a swing ..... last 4 digits are that actual hull, reckon yours is an early one looking at colour and fittings.

Down the years the colours have changed as have some fittings but the plastic mould is the same, my yak is a 2005 and regularly paddle in company with a 1999 swing the boats are same on the water.

Mine is a 2001 01SW2306, i purchased off the original owner, who imported from New Zealand to South Africa then brought it with him when he moved to Australia 6 years ago.

All the early ones were made by Perception Kayaks in NZ, but later were produced by Perception in South Australia as well.

Mine is a Sth Aust one, moulded 4 years after yours with hull number 5272 so roughly 3000 made in that time and shows how popular they were in their day, although perhaps SA boats had their own production number sequence, am not sure.

Bought mine new, and when ordered it was 3 weeks before it was moulded and despatched from the factory, but was held up by Christmas public holidays during the production period.
